IN THIS LESSON

Community is the currency of faith.

Throughout the New Testament Paul and other authors use the personal pronoun “you.” “It is by grace that you have been saved.” (Ephesians 2:8) “Don’t you know that you are God’s temple?” (1 Cor. 3:16) As individualistic, Western Christians we read these texts as singular. “I have been saved by grace” and “I am the temple of God.” But in most cases these pronouns are plural. As my Texas friends love to say, “Ya’ll have been saved by grace” and “Ya’ll, collectively form the temple of God.” That plural makes all the difference. Being a follower is Jesus is never a solo endeavor, it is a team sport.
